After talking it over with Viv, she has agreed to let me buy it. So on Tuesday, the car will be coming home with me. :) The engine needs to be put back together, and some other things need fixing, but the body looks straight. All the gaps are right. She is going to become my Auto AWD conversion. The project won't officially start for a while since cash is tight right now, but this deal was too good to pass up. I'll try and post up pictures when I get her. With a little luck, I can get the engine back together without having to spend money. If so, she actually could potentially run soon. But I won't register her for a while since I don't plan on driving her till she is converted.

The thermostat controls the engines operating... Lets get some facts about the cooling system.

1. The thermostat controls the engines operating temp. By lowering the thermostats operating temp, (say 160 deg vs 185deg) will not keep an overheating engine from overheating.

2. The thermostat acts as a restrictor in the return hose to the radiator. Removing the thermostat is VERY dangerous on an engine that can REV past 7000 RPM. The water pressure in an unrestricted upper radiator hose can become great enough to blow the hose off at high RPM, allowing coolant under the tires and possibly losing control of the car.

3. Installing a FMIC in front of the radiator, lowers the available airflow at the same time heating the air that the radiator has to use to cool the engine coolant. ( less cooling efficency for the radiator). Something to consider when choosing an intercooler.

4. On a normally operating system, the cooling fans are only needed when there is not enough ram air through the radiator.

5. Water transfers heat more efficently than glycol, so a concentration of 70/30 water to glycol is more efficent at removing heat than 50/50. Best used only in warm climates. A higher concentration than 70 % of water is more efficent, but you lose the lubrication and corrosion inhibitants in the glycol.

5. When you increase engine power, the cooling system needs to be increased to keep the temps in check. The cooling system needs to be able to remove 1/3 the heat produced by the engine. More power = more heat = more cooling capacity.

6. You can increase the pressure in the system with a higher pressure cap, as long as the rest of the system can handle the higher pressure. I have the somewhat ugly stock grey interior with a shot carpet and I feel now might be the time to paint it, so I'm asking you guys to help me with a color scheme.

First off. The carpet. Do you suggest keeping it grey or changing the color. Either way I am going to be re-doing it. Do you guys suggest Rustolem interior and vinyl paint or dye? I have seen the paint come out to be really good. I found some dye for cheap though Auto Carpet Dyes And Stain Removal

Secondly the seats. Color ideas?

Thirdly the dash and all panels. Any ideas on colors. I also do not have a spray gun. Are the made for plastic spray paints\primers any good with the appropriate prep work or will they peel and flake. I want to do this GOOD so I do not have to pull the dash again.

I was thinking of blacking out the interior, but that would get really hot and all black is just boring.

White sounds good but would get dirty fast.

Tan.... hmm, but I don't just want one single color.

Throw me some ideas or show me some pictures of your custom interior Dakotas.
