If you used 4 of those little donut tires, surely you could save 40, 50 lbs...

A plexiglass windshield is illegal on the street in every state.

Not saying that what you're saying isn't do-able. Just that it's impractical.

In terms of weight/horsepower ratio, you'd see far better results spending a fraction of the costs you've outlined and increasing horsepower a bit to make up for the weight.

Since when do people do things to their cars only if it is legal? How many people have gut their cats?

Default Re: Weight Savings

depends on what your trying to do. the more weight you drop the more the car sucks to be in.

Compared to modern cars im cool with the cars weight. Consider this the new camaro, and new challenger weighs 3700lbs. where awd and only 22lbs heavier. The new GTR is 3800lbs.

mine is fwd I have weight mods and im right at 3000lbs. The problem im running into is droping more weight and fucking up the balaance f the car.

best mods to do are replace the seats, carbon hood, light rims, carbon driveshaft, AWS delete.

If yopu want to go race car then fuel cell, plexi glasss, no A/C, carbon doors etc are the way to go but that stuff is expensive. The fuel cell swap alone, requires custome braided steel lines, -10AN feed, -6 return, custom external fuel pump, regulator, custom rails, or mod the stockers to work. I have a list of all the parts needed and its almost 2000.00 in parts! I see some people adapting the factory lines to work thats not a good setup. the lines are too small for big fuel flow, And hey wonder why pumps are burning up. anyway

IMHO all that isnt worth it for a street car, at that point the better option is to just buy a lighter car and build it as a race car.

you can buy a AW11 MR2, curb weight 2300lbs full interior. these can be had for about 1000
buy a 4age 20V silver top - 800.00
that should be a 14 sec car.
buy 4AGZE pistons, turbo it with a evo 3 16G, 17 - 21 psi - 300 whp.
300whp + 2300lb = 10 sec car.

its Mid engined so the handling will be phenominal. On the track that would be a tough little car to beat. It would be a real giant slayer for very little money.

And the small displacement will mean you wont get put into a difficult class.

Another option is to buy a porsche 944, put in a VQ35HR engine in it, that would be a sick sick setup. Or a LS1 would be even crazier. but the LS1 will add 200 lbs to the front end vs the VQ35DE HR, the LS1 on the other hand has more hp potential

That car would be sat or around 3000lbs. stock is 2900lbs. If you really wanted to be freaky buy a sr20det. that engine weighs 100lbs less than the VQ, can make the same power and a whopping 300lbs less than the LS1. Its also a much cheaper engine thnan both.

Or buy a BMW 318 - that car is 2500lbs full interior. Buy a M62 B44 V8 or a LS1. the M62 engine is 200 lbs lighter than the LS1, but it has a much smaller displacement 4.4L vs 5.7L the M62 goes for about 1,600. and there are alot of BMW trans available.

All those cars could be built for less money than it would cost to mod the 3S, and would be more competative. The 3S is the perfect street car, believe me when you start getting that crazy about weight loss your spending money to destroy your car thats it. Trust me been there done that, got the T-shirt and sold it.

Ask rubio about my car. I put the interior back in because the car was downright depressing to drive.

I'm removing the factory seats and putting those light weight racing seats. I'll keep the factory seats in storage. My 3000GT is no longer my daily drive.
