Default Chirping sound in morning....

When I start my car in the morning I hear a chirping sound. After driving and the car warms up it goes away. It seems to do this when it is cold outside. But it is annoying. Once the sound stops everything seems fine. I'm just wondering if there is away to stop the chirping sound when I first start up in the morning.

Also should I wait till the card warms up and then start driving?.... cause I just get in and start driving.

sorry i dont have any advice for you about the chirping sound but as far as warming up before driving... its not really necessary as long as your not goin WOT right out of the drive way. I also drive like a granny until she gets warmed up. Just my $0.02

I had the same sound, its the beginning of either your idler pulley or accessory tensioner failing, or both. The worse they become the less chirp and more grinding noises it makes. replace them both since doing one would lead to failure later anyway. With a stethoscope i can hear the noise from my tensioner at my alternator and top of the heads from the bottom of the engine, its not a nice sound.

Does it stop chirping when you shift?

It only "chirps" when coasting in neutral or stopped at red light... i.e. idling. While in gear the chirping goes away. I think I might need a transmission flush. Not sure though. I am hoping Misael could take a look at it.

PS... Can't wait till Jan 23rd... looking forward to meeting other members.

Get a can of silicone spray, and spray the center of the idler pulleys (with engine off). Then start the car, see if it stops. I would spray one, start car, spray another/start car etc.. till you get the right one. Then you'll know which one to replace. Sounds like the A/C pulley to me. Good luck.

I can almost guarantee its the idler pulley or tensioner... same exact symptoms my car had last week except now its making grinding noises from the bearings failing. Replace both of them if that is the problem. When one fails it usually leads to failure in the others because of the added resistance. I had replaced my idler earlier this year and now i have to replace it again because the tensioner pulley failed.

See if you hear noises coming front the left side of the engine bay

could be the serpentene belt is getting old and slick.

try squirting a little wAter on the belt while it is chirping . if it is the belt it should stop. if not it could be the tensioner pulleys.
